DeepL is most useful when a team needs to translate recurring documents or messages while keeping terms consistent. It offers Translator for text and files, Write for improving text, Voice for spoken conversations, and separate API products for integrations. These products do not automatically share one entitlement: a Translator subscription does not include translation API access, and the Write Pro add-on does not include the Write API.
Choose by workflow
| What you need | Start with | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|
| Translate occasional text or a file manually | DeepL Translator | Supported language pair, file format and document allowance. |
| Keep product names or specialist terms consistent across languages | Translator with a glossary | Glossary availability, storage and sharing on the plan you choose. |
| Improve a draft in its original language | DeepL Write | Whether the required Write features are included or sold as an add-on. |
| Translate inside an app or automated workflow | A DeepL API plan | API eligibility, usage limits and cost controls; a Translator plan alone is insufficient. |
A useful trial: Select three short examples from the material you actually handle: a customer email, a paragraph with specialist terminology, and a formatted document. Check meaning and tone, whether glossary terms survive, and how much manual correction is needed. Do not treat fluent output as proof of legal or technical accuracy. This is a suggested evaluation method, not a claim that ScoutChoice tested DeepL with those files.
DeepL says free-user glossary entries are stored locally in the browser, while account-based storage and sharing depend on the paid plan. Its document formats and limits also vary. See DeepL’s plan guide, glossary documentation and file translation guide. Verify the checkout price for your country, billing term and products before subscribing.
